6 Days New | Flower Mound and Lewisville, TX Newborn Portraits

This beautiful baby girl was born on Valentine's Day!  Mom and dad warned me upon her birth announcement that she was very alert and active.  So we bumped up her session a few days early.  They sure were right, she was alert alright and had to be swaddled in two blankets to keep her hands from her face.  Even then she tried pulling them out, what a strong baby!  We finally got her sleepy at the end of the session.  You may remember this couple's maternity portraits.

Signs of Spring | Flower Mound, TX Photographer

My favorite season of the year is quickly approaching!  February is the month of pruning roses in preparation of Spring.  I love watching the leaves sprout from the dormant plants.

This photo was taken after we had some snow.

St. Valentine's Day | Flower Mound, TX Photographer

Do you know the history of Valentine's Day?  Many think of it as a Hallmark Holiday.  According to Wikipedia, "St. Valentine's Day began as a celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus.
He was imprisoned after performing wedding ceremony's for soldiers
who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire
During his imprisonment, he healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius. An embellishment to this story states that before his execution he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell."  Later in the high middle ages a tradition started with presenting hand written cards, flowers, and candy.

These are very easy!  I used chocolate sandwich cookies with light cream cheese mixed in the food processor.  Form into a ball and drop on parchment paper, chill in the freezer for 30 minutes.  Then dip into melted chocolate and embellish with sprinkles.

Winter Sessions | Portrait Photographer in Dallas/Ft. Worth/Flower Mound, TX

Portrait Sessions in Winter

As an on-location photographer I'm asked about the best location for Winter Sessions.  I suggest town centers, downtown's, parks with interesting textures and features, or even a client's home.  The great thing about living in Texas is that it may be cold one day and warm the next.  For example as I'm typing this post it's 31° and Saturday's forecast is calling for 70°.

Here are some locations that make great backgrounds especially for Winter.

Downtown Grapevine has many spots that make great backgrounds such as this log cabin.

Grapevine's Train Depot

Town centers such as Parker Square, Shops at Highland Village, or Southlake Town Center.

Old Buildings

Bridges

Client homes may have nice features, for example this garage makes a nice background.

What should you wear for Winter sessions?  Scarves, colorful coats/jackets, sweaters, hats, etc...really pop from the brown and neutral tones of Winter.

Winter | Flower Mound, TX Photographer

Texas is known for our crazy weather, one moment we have 70 degree weather and the next freezing temps.  The saying goes stick around long enough and you'll see nice weather.  This Winter has been an interesting and cold one for sure, we had an ice storm in early Dec. which technically still Fall and now some snow for February.  I remember 7 years ago we had a cold Winter with a lot of ice and snow even into April.

What am I?

Valentine Cutie's | Child Portraits in Flower Mound, TX

Sadly I'm finding that I don't pull out my camera as much as I used to with my own children.  In this Smart Phone age it's so easy to have a camera at my fingertips.  While the camera on phones have improved, they still don't compare to a regular camera especially to a Full Frame digital SLR.  This year I need to force myself to take more sessions with my own family.  My girls aren't always willing to smile in front of the camera but if it involves something fun it's a different story.  Here are my Valentine Cutie's!
