Road Trip Part 1 | Palo Duro Canyon

Road Trip Part 1

My family took a road trip vacation last week.  Our first stop was to see Palo Duro Canyon located in the Panhandle of Texas, near Canyon.  It's approx. 50 minutes from Amarillo, TX.  Palo Duro is the 2nd largest canyon in the United States next to the Grand Canyon being the largest.  Wikipedia says, "The canyon was formed by the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River, which initially winds along the level surface of the Llano Estacado of West Texas, then suddenly and dramatically runs off the Caprock Escarpment. Water erosion over the millennia has shaped the canyon's geological formations."

Our 2nd day with a final destination of Colorado Springs, we stopped to see the famous Cadillac Ranch.  It's a public art sculpture created in 1974 of 10 Cadillacs ranging from 1949 to 1963 models.
