Planning your Fall Portraits | Family and Child Photograher in Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX

September is here and it's time to plan your Fall/Holiday Portraits!  Whether you choose me or another photographer here are some helpful tips.

Choosing your Photographer
When you are looking for a photographer don't choose them based on price alone.  I'm a strong believer in "you get what you pay for".  Carefully look at the quality of the photographers work.  Is their work properly consistent?  I strive to offer true to life color and professional heirloom quality products that will last years.

Investment
Portraits are an investment of capturing time that can not be replaced.  It's so important for your family to see imagery of you when you are gone.  I inherited family portraits when my grandfather passed away that goes back to my great-great grandparents generation.  I'm so happy to have these as part of my genealogy collection.  Think carefully about how you invest your time and money with your family's portraiture.
My great-grandmother was one of the identical twins in this portrait.

Scheduling
Fall is one of the busiest seasons for photographers, schedule your session early!  I started booking Fall sessions beginning in July and am quickly filling up fast.
What to Wear
Once you've scheduled your session begin planning what your family will wear.  You definitely don't want to wait until last minute and be scrambling to find clothing.  The current trend is to mix and match instead of everyone matching.  Color coordinate complimentary colors.  Solids are always great because they are timeless.  If you want to include patterns or stripes keep it very simple.  Not all patterns and colors photograph well.  Neon, white, and red are difficult colors while neutral colors are the easiest to capture.  If you need ideas, check out Pinterest!

The Night Before Your Session
Make sure everyone's outfit is ready!  Does it need to be ironed?  Don't forget accessories, keep it simple and classic.  Do you have clean socks and shoes ready?

During your Session
Relax and have fun! If children are involved let them be kids and allow the photographer to redirect them.  Avoid yelling at your children!  It only makes everyone uncomfortable.
