I Heart Faces Photo Challenge "A Touch of Sun" | Family Portrait Photographer DFW, TX

This weeks I Heart Faces Photo Challenge is "A Touch of Sun", I know I recently shared this session but I felt that this image well suited this challenge and it's been one of my favorites.  I love the connection between this family and the lighting.

Back to School! | Dallas/Ft. Worth area Children's Portrait Photographer

School is officially back in session including pre-schools!  Both of our daughter's are in pre-school 2x a week this year, our oldest in pre-kindergarten and youngest in a 2 year old class.  It's hard to believe next year we will be entering elementary school.  The past 4+ years have gone by in a blurr!  Before I became a mom I had heard that the time would fly when you have children and it sure does.  It feels like it was just yesterday that we brought our 1st born home from the hospital.  This is why it's so important to capture beautiful images of your children and family to cherish every year of life.  I have family heirloom portraits that have been handed down to me from when my great-grandmother was a young child.  Family portraits will last many generations!  Contact me today to book your child(ren's)/family portraits.  robinkelmphotography@gmail.com

Embracing the light! | Flower Mound/Lewisville/Highland Village Children's Photographer

As a photographer who primarily uses natural light, indoor lighting can be tricky.  A north facing window is best but not always available in homes.  In my home the best area of light coming in with a workable space is facing east.  I typically use this room for my children's indoor portraits.  My daughter's love to play dress-up, so I decided that we all could "play" on one hot afternoon indoors where it's cool!  I wanted to use the window as back light instead of the usual even lighting I typically use.  To do this I had to ignore the flashing blinkies on my histogram and use a high ISO.  I'm not one to always like blown whites and high grain but I believe as an artist you need to try new things and break "rules" sometimes.

Can you tell I'm bribing with candy here?  She's a typical 2 year old and wasn't happy with me at the time.
